Richard Montoya is a founding member of the national performance trio known as Culture Clash. Born in an art gallery they have been creating searing portraits and works for the national stage. In 1992 they began a series of site specific plays: Radio Mambo (Miami), Anthems (Arena Stage/DC) Nuyorican Stories (INTAR/NYC), Bordertown (San Diego and Tijuana) and Chavez Ravine (LA) to name a few. Montoya has been emerging as a solo playwright with Water & Power, Palestine New Mexico an American Night originally commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Fest and new productions in Denver, La Jolla and Center Theater Group. A new anthology of plays was recently published by TCG, Oh Wild West!: The California Plays. They are currently listed as material not suitable for high school students by the Arizona Attorney General. New works include: The River for Campo Santo, 32 Beds for SCR, Los Doppelgangers with performance artist Guillermo Gomez Pena and Mekhong Ð Human Trafficking in Seattle for the ashes of the Intiman!
